My Trip to Turku

On Tuesday three of my classmates and I went on a day trip to Turku. We met up at the Loimaa Trainstation at around 10 am and took the next train for half an hour. We already planned what we wanted to do the day before and we hoped that we could manage everything in time, as we only had five hours.

First we wanted to go to an art museum, which was 30 minutes away from the train station. On the way there we came across some beautiful buildings and streets. Once we arrived at the art museum, we didn’t find the entrance at first, so we walked around the building until we found it. Inside were multiple artworks, all with the overall topic of ‘war’. There were three rooms with multiple artworks on display to look at and everything was also made out of recycled materials. We spent almost an hour in there, taking photos and looking at everything with fascination.

Afterwards we wanted to go to a science museum which was 40 minutes away from the art museum. We accidentally took a few wrong turns because we didn’t have the right address, but due to that we saw ‘Posankka’ and more beautiful buildings and churches. Sadly we couldn’t figure out where the museum was so we had to cross that off the list.

We then wanted to go to a cat cafe, which we found by coincidence on google maps. It was again another 40 minute walk there, so we stopped at a supermarket and got something to eat and drink. After a quick pause we continued and walked beside the river. The cafe had four cats in total and they were all playing around when we came in. We sat down and ordered a chocolate mousse and a coffee which had a cat face printed on top and we spent around an hour in there just talking and petting the cats.

We then arrived at the train station at 4 pm after trying to find the entrance again for a good 5 minutes. Finally we got on the train and almost fell asleep after walking through the entire city. Half an hour later we arrived back in Loimaa and went our separate ways.

Turku was truly beautiful, with lots of things to do and amazing people. In case I’ll ever be back in Finland, I am definitely going to visit Turku again.
